Remotes, Network & Ignore Rules

Synchronize repositories with remote servers and manage ignored files.

1. Clone a Repository (minigit clone)

Downloads a complete repository and checks out the default branch:

bash
minigit clone https://github.com/example/project.git

2. Remote Management (minigit remote)

Inspect and configure upstream remote repository URLs:

bash
# List configured remotes
minigit remote -v

# Add a new remote
minigit remote add origin https://github.com/example/repo.git

# Remove a remote
minigit remote remove origin

3. Synchronize Changes (minigit fetch, push, pull)

Transmit and receive commits:

bash
# Fetch latest references from remote without merging
minigit fetch origin

# Fetch and merge into the current branch in one step
minigit pull origin main

# Publish local branch commits to the remote
minigit push origin main

4. Ignoring Files (.minigitignore)

Create a .minigitignore file in your repository root to ignore build artifacts, logs, and sensitive data:

text
# Ignore build artifacts
build/
bin/
*.exe
*.o

# Ignore environment files
.env
*.local

# Ignore logs
*.log

Patterns match standard wildcards (*, ?, [a-z]) and directory slashes (/).
